Larry Reyes
& the 'Hawaiian' to be Featured at
Reunion
October/17/2007 23:28
This years Rodders Reunion will feature one
of the most noteworthy funny cars to ever
compete at the nations drag strips. The
legendary 'Hawaiian' will be on display and
Larry Reyes will be on hand to accompany
his former drag strip ride. Larry was the
driver of this first in a long line of
'Hawaiian' funny cars, and firmly
established the car as a threat everywhere
it appeared.
Found languishing in a garage in Hawaii,
the car was recently restored by Ted Guth
in Minnesota and was re-introduced to the
drag racing community at the 2006
California Hot Rod Reunion in Bakersfield.
Larry Reyes was on hand to reclaim his old
seat for the 'Cacklefest' and the cars
original owner and event grand marshall
Roland Leong, was also present before
legions of admiring drag race fans. After
leading off the 'Cacklefest' an emotional
Reyes said that being back in the car was
"like I never left." Arguably the hit of
the entire 2006 CHRR, the car has since
appeared at the 2007 National Hot Rod
Reunion in Columbus Ohio to similar rave
reviews.
Seeing the notorious 'Hawaiian' flopper is
enough reason to make this years Rodders
Reunion a "must see" event, but an added
bonus will be a photo slide show prepared
from images made at both the CHRR and the
NHRR of the 'Hawaiian' just for the Memphis
Rodders Reunion audience.
Register in advance for the 2007 Memphis
Rodders Reunion because this one will
likely be standing room only!
